Almeida is a municipality in the district of Guarda, in the central region of Portugal. It is located in the border area between Portugal and Spain, and it is known for its well-preserved fortress, which was built in the 17th century to defend the region against Spanish attacks. The fortress is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most important historical landmarks in Portugal.
Apart from the fortress, Almeida is also known for its beautiful countryside and natural parks, which offer many opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and birdwatching.
