It's a busy Civic Holiday weekend in the Greater Toronto Area. Here's a peek at a few fun festivals for the whole family that are absolutely do-able in a day-trip, in a special edition of the GTA events planner. 1. The NEWMARKET JAZZ FESTIVAL runs Friday to Monday at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex in Newmarket. Acts include Colin James and George St. Kitts.

 

2. The TORONTO FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL is on from Friday to Sunday at Woodbine Park. More than 30 food trucks featured at one of Canada's premier food truck festivals. Live music and eating challenges too!

 

3. From Friday to Monday at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, it's the ISLAND SOUL WEEKEND FESTIVAL. Dance, music, cuisine and family activities on all four days.

 

4. From Friday to Monday at Thomson Park in Scarborough, it's the annual SCARBOROUGH ROTARY RIB FEST.

 

5. Just a touch north of the GTA (but just a touch), the GEORGIAN BAY STEAM SHOW runs from Friday to Monday in Innisfil. Daily and weekend passes available.

 

6. And just a touch north from there, at the Barrie waterfront, it's KEMPENFEST 2016 at the Barrie Waterfront. Lots of vendors, activities and live entertainment. Plus the sun, sand and water...

 

7. It's the VELD MUSIC FESTIVAL Saturday and Sunday at Toronto's Downsview Park. Among the performers: Deadmau5, The Chainsmokers and DVBBS.


 
8. In Markham, the JAMBANA ONE WORLD FESTIVAL is Sunday and Monday at the Markham Fairgrounds. In addition to the diverse entertainment offerings, try out the Domino Village, the Children's Village, the Food Village, the Travel and Trade Village, and the Health Village. A variety of villages!

 

9. It's a celebration of all things Phillippines Saturday and Sunday at Celebration Square in Mississauga. It's FIESTA NG KALAYAAN. Dance, music, fashion, food and more.

 

10. The division-leading BALTIMORE ORIOLES FACE THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS in a three-game series from Friday to Sunday.
