Start the new year off right with a trip to Miami. Whether you take advantage of all the vacation deals for Miami Cruise Month or spend some time exploring the Magic City by land, January is a great month to skip the cold and head to the warm. And check out our list of not-to-miss events below.

 

Miami Jewish Film Festival: Jan. 12-26

Hosted by the Miami Jewish Film Society, this year’s edition of the Miami Jewish Film Festival will include screenings at various locations throughout the month of January. Show times and ticket prices vary.

Art Deco Weekend: Jan. 13-15

An annual event that takes place each year on Ocean Drive in South Beach is back! The Miami Design Preservation League’s Art Deco Weekend celebrates Miami’s unique architecture, design, history, art and culture. Browse vintage art and photography, catch a fashion show or listen to live music. This free, three-day outdoor festival takes place on Ocean Drive between 5th and 13th streets.

Wodapalooza Miami Fitness Festival: Jan. 13-15

Wodapalooza is a sweat-filled weekend festival bringing fitness fanatics from all over the world together to Downtown’s Bayfront Park. There are intense competitions for athletes and fitness gurus and plenty of interesting exhibitions for spectators, too. Spectator tickets start at $40 per person.

Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival: Jan. 13-15

The Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival will bring Sci Fi fans from around the nation to the Magic City for a weekend of fantasy-themed films and forums. Show times and ticket prices vary.

Beaux Arts Festival of Art: Jan. 14-15

The Beaux Arts Festival of Art showcases the best art, crafts and other media platforms from more than 220 fine art exhibitors at the University of Miami. The event also features live entertainment, children’s art activities and tasty dining options. Admission to the festival is free and classes are available for a fee. Proceeds from classes benefit the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami.

Redland Heritage Festival: Jan. 14-15

Join the annual tradition and celebrate the Redland's rich heritage at the Redland Heritage Festival at the Fruit & Spice Park in Homestead. Enjoy arts and crafts, historical exhibits, great food and a wide variety of tropical plants. The festival runs each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person and children under 11 are free.

Gay8 Festival: Jan. 15

Back for its second edition, Gay8 Festival is a free, one-day event in Little Havana on Calle Ocho. Enjoy live music, street performances, and entertainment from the South Florida LGBT community. While general admission is free, VIP tickets are available for $100 per person.

Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Day Parade: Jan. 16

Celebrate history with great fanfare and marching bands at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade in Liberty City. The parade takes place at 11 a.m. along NW 54th Street on a route from NW 12th Avenue to NW 32nd Avenue and ends with a celebration at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park.

Frost School of Music's Festival Miami: Jan. 19 - Feb. 11

The University of Miami's Frost School of Music presents the annual Festival Miami featuring featuring international musical guest artists, master faculty artists, and award-winning student ensembles. Show times and ticket prices vary.

Fairchild’s Chocolate Festival: Jan. 20-22

Forget those New Year’s resolutions just for this one chocolate-filled weekend. Unleash your sweet tooth at the tenth annual Chocolate Festival at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Enjoy chocolate treats, learn about cacao trees and watch cooking demonstrations. Tickets start at $25 for adults and $12 for kids.

Homestead Championship Rodeo: Jan. 20-22

Calling all cowboys and cowgirls! The Homestead Championship Rodeo is sure to be a weekend full of fun for the whole family, including the crowning of the Homestead Rodeo Queen and a free parade in downtown Homestead. Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for kids and tickets are available at the door.

Fine Arts Fest at Pinecrest Gardens: Jan. 21-22

Peruse through paintings, sculptures, photography and other fine artwork at the 2017 South Motors Fine Arts Fest at Pinecrest Gardens. The festival takes place Jan. 21-22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free to the public.

Coconut Grove Comedy Festival: Jan. 21

Laugh the night away as 30 comedians perform for charity at the inaugural Coconut Grove Comedy Festival. Shows start at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tickets start at $25 in advance and $35 at the door.

The Race of Champions: Jan. 21-22

Marlins Park will be transformed into a cutting-edge race track to host a world-class auto racing experience called The Race Of Champions. Watch as some of the world's greatest drivers from motorsports' elite leagues and disciplines battle head-to-head in superfast identical racecars. Tickets start at $18 per person.

Coral Gables Festival of the Arts: Jan. 28-29

For a weekend full of artsy entertainment, head to the Coral Gables Festival of the Arts. Enjoy the finest of visual arts during the street festival as well as a special feature area presenting The Art of Fine Wine & Craft Spirits event (tickets start at $59 per person). The street festival is free and will take place on Gerald Avenue between Ponce de Leon and Le Jeune Road.

Miami Marathon and Half Marathon: Jan. 29

The Miami Marathon and Half Marathon is back! Attracting more than 25,000 participants, the race showcases notable city landmarks and killer views.
